The Pine Cone Cup marks the return of our annual HLR MGA - WGA Member/Guest tournament.
This event will combine three days of golf, food, and social events into a full weekend.
Cost for the event?
$280 per team or $140 per team member
How many rounds?
Friday practice round AM or PM shotgun starts (Play with other teams or your friends, your choice), 2 tournament rounds - Saturday (PM) and Sunday (AM).Guests green fees are included in your entry fee (cart fee is extra if needed). Following Sunday's Round 2, we will present awards and payouts, and wish our guests safe travels on their journey home.
Will you feed me?
Yes! All players (members and guests) will enjoy the following meals included as part of their tournament entry fee:
Friday Night “Welcoming Party and Player Calcutta” (open to all players and all MGA/WGA members): Enjoy hors d’oeuvres (while they last) and take part in the bidding to buy your favorite team! All MGA/WGA members are welcome to attend this event, so plan on being there and join in the fun.
Saturday Pre-Round (players only): A hamburger buffet for players prior to afternoon shotgun start for Round 1.
Saturday Night Banquet will be a plated dinner open to all players and their significant other.
Sunday Pre-Round (players only): A grab and go breakfast and coffee will be available at the Whisky’s prior to the Round 2.
What are the social events?
Our 2024 Pine Cone Cup isn't just a golf tournament, it's a weekend of social events and fun.We'll kick off the weekend the right way with our Friday night Player Calcutta at Whiskey’s. This event is open to all MGA/WGA members, even if you're not participating in the tournament. Everyone will enjoy free hors d’oeuvres (while they last), and will be encouraged to take part in the bidding to buy your favorite team! The Saturday Night Banquet will be held at the restaurant for a wonderful evening. All players (that’s the members and guests) should invite a friend or significant other to join in the fun.
What are the tournament format details?
The format is a 2-person quota, both balls count. The quota will be adjusted on the second day based on the first day’s score.
What tees will be played?
Players under 60 will play the White Tees. Players 60 and over may play the Gold Tees. Ladies will play from the Red Tees. The Green Tees will not be used in this tournament.
What is a Calcutta?
Friday Night's Welcoming Party will include The Calcutta. A Calcutta is an auction of all teams and anyone may buy any team. The minimum bid is $100. Any team that is not bid on will become property of the HLR MGA, and any Calcutta winnings will go to that Association. If your team is purchased by someone other than your team, the buyer can offer the team up to half of the winning bid. The half must be paid to the bid winner prior to tee off on Saturday, or the bidder will retain the entire bid winning amount. All team purchases MUST be paid for on Friday evening at the event. Cash for payments please. We will take checks but cash is preferred. NO Credit Cards. The HLR MGA will take 10% off the top of the total Calcutta.
What else should I know?
Space is guaranteed for the first 30 teams. Slots are going fast, so visit the Pro Shop for more details and to sign-up.The $280 team entry fee is due by May 31st, payable by check to HLR MGA or cash at the Pro Shop.
You can sign-up before you have invited your guest to play but will need to have their info submitted by May 27th.Your guest must have an official handicap to qualify for the tournament. PINE CONE CUP SCORING SYSTEM
Add both team member’s handicaps together and subtract them from 72. That number is the team’s quota for Round 1 on Saturday.
Example:
Player A’s handicap is 20 72
Player B’s handicap is 15 -35
= 35 37 points on Saturday
On Sunday, the quotas will increase or decrease by 50% of the difference above or below your Saturday results.
The winner in each flight is the team with the highest 2-day total.
Both player’s balls are counted on every hole. The points are as follows:
Eagle - 5 points
Birdie - 4 points
Par - 2 points
Bogey - 1 point
